Transport in Uzbekistan: From Taxis to High-Speed Trains
When traveling around Uzbekistan, tourists can choose from various transport options — from convenient taxis and city buses to modern high-speed trains connecting the country’s main cities.
Taxis
Taxis are the most popular means of transport in cities. In Tashkent and other major centers, several taxi apps are available (such as Yandex Go). Prices are lower than in Europe, but if you take a taxi without an app, it is best to agree on the fare in advance.
Public Transport
Tashkent has a metro system, considered one of the most beautiful in the world due to its mosaics and architectural design. Fares are inexpensive, and the metro is safe and efficient. Buses and minibuses also operate in cities, but routes can be difficult for foreigners to navigate.
Intercity Buses and Minibuses
For traveling between cities, intercity buses and shared taxis are available. They are affordable but less comfortable compared to trains.
Trains
Uzbekistan has a well-developed railway network. The most convenient option for tourists is the Afrosiyob high-speed train, which connects Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Karshi. The journey takes only a few hours and offers modern comfort. Night trains and standard trains are also available.
Domestic Flights
Some cities are connected by domestic flights. Flying is faster but more expensive compared to trains.
